PATH TO THE PRODUCTION PHASE
The main phases of the productive process are:
Grinding of CFRP
The CFRP to treat arrives to the plant in sizes of different dimensions; hence it is necessary to provide the milling of the material inside grinders with a rotor with sectored blazes. The maximum dimensions of the incoming material of the grinding system must be 500x500 mm and the material is reduced until a size with a diameter of 6 mm.
Storage of CFRP,EPS, acetone
The grinded CFRP is later stored in vertical cylindrical silos.
The EPS is stocked in a dedicated rectangular shaped warehouse.
The acetone, both virgin (coming from the outwards) and recycled (coming from the further phases of the productive process), is stored in specific tanks that are kept in overpressure by flushing with inert gas.
Mixing of CFRP with acetone and EPS
The stored materials arrive in specific quantities into the reactors made of stainless steel with an inner multi-blade agitator made of the same material. Inside the mixers the materials combine and create a paste rather homogeneous and with a semi-solid consistency.
Calendering of the mixture through rollers
The resulting mixture is extracted from the mixers and casted on conveyor belts that carry it through a system of rollers to realize sheets with a thickness in a range of 0.5-1.0 cm. In this phase, thanks to the rollers, the greater amount of acetone is eliminated and it is firstly gathered in an intermediate basin and then recovered and re-sent at the beginning of the cycle into the storage tanks of the very acetone.
The obtained papers are cut and put on trays that are later conveyed to the drying phase.
Drying of the mixture inside ventilated ovens
The trays containing the mixture are inserted inside ventilated ovens that allow the elimination of water and residual acetone from the considered mass.
The air coming from the ovens is transferred to a treatment plant where a depuration of the smokes is implemented in order to allow the emission in the atmosphere respecting the normative.
Furthermore, in this plant the acetone is recovered and conveyed at the beginning of the production cycle into the storage tanks.
After the drying phase the trays are extracted from the ovens and sent to the pressing phase where the resulting products will have a thickness and a shape to define considering the different requirements that depend on the application field of the material to re-use.
